idea is born -- some truly dedicated to the advancement of
small business had a vision

SSBIA is
formed -- it started small, but the idea would soon catch on
1978
SSBIA's Constitution
is adopted -- we now had framework
1987
SSBIA's membership
exceeds 100 -- we now had a presence
1989
1st issue
of the Journal of Business & Entrepreneurship is published
at Northwestern State University in Louisiana -- we now had an
avenue to support our research scholars
1991
Journal of
Business & Entrepreneurship moves to California State University
1992
The "Fellows" program
is initiated -- we now have a way to recognize some very hard
work by some very deserving individuals
1994
Journal of
Business & Entrepreneurship moves to its current home of
New Mexico State University -- our credibility increases
1996
The Small
Business Administrations dissolves its support of the Small Business
Institute Program -- a hurdle that had to be overcome
1997
SSIBA changes
its name to ASBE -- it was time to become a national and international
organization
2001
503 (C)
status is applied for -- we will have a way for others to show
their support for small business
2003
We went out on our own, withdrew from the Federation
of Business Disciplines (FBD), and launched our own conference
